PLEASE READ RULES BEFORE POSTING
Tulsa Houseplant Club (abbreviated THC or THpC, whichever is preferred) is a place for locals to discuss and share all things houseplants, succulents, cacti, tropicals and more. Share photos of your collection, offer and receive growing advice and become a member of a fun, growing group where other like-minded plant lovers come to enjoy their hobby!
Please note: Tulsa has several groups dedicated to general gardening, farming, homesteading, native plants, medicinal or cannabis growing information or similar topics, so let's please keep the discussion in this group limited to houseplants. Occasional posts are allowed, but please limit posts not pertaining to houseplants.
We want this group’s primary purpose to remain as a safe and inclusive gathering place for like-minded plant-people to share photos of our house plants, our plant struggles & successes, funny plant memes, etc.
Items that can be listed for sale: house plants, planters and house plant related pottery and accessories for LOCAL PICK UP ONLY! So that is the Tulsa Metro area, and surrounding cities within 30 minutes of Tulsa. If you are driving to Tulsa to B/S/T (buy/sell/trade) please be aware if anything does not go as planned with your B/S/T and returns or adjustments need to take place, they will need to take place in Tulsa, no shipping. If you are unsure about anything B/S/T please message an admin before posting.
When listing or buying an item within the group, you are agreeing to these rules. If you have any issues with a buyer/seller/trader, please message an admin first before posting a negative review! Admins are here to help mediate disputes when we can. We offer a neutral ground to discuss possible solutions, but ultimately it is up to the parties involved on how to settle their dispute.
Rule breakers will be warned once and then banned.
TOPIC: Industry Professionals
There are dozens of members in this group that come from a horticultural background and/or are currently working or volunteering in the same field (as would be expected of a plant lovers’ community).
If you work or volunteer in the horticulture field, please let us know your work experience, background or business.
Employees, volunteers and owners of local nurseries, garden centers, plant shops, big box store garden centers, plant related establishments or other plant individuals or groups can post ON SATURDAYS ONLY on behalf of their business or "self promotion" if:
1) the posts are houseplant related
2) the business or organization is located in Tulsa or a surrounding city
3) the poster has been transparent about their relationship with establishment and not doing so in “disguise” as a customer
4) the posts are not repetitive or excessive.
5) multiple items are consolidated into one album instead of multiple posts
Posts can include sharing of current/new houseplant related inventory, local classes or events and anything else relevant to our group, but please note these posts are only allowed on Saturdays unless it is an official Tulsa Houseplant Club post/event (posted by an admin).
If you are not affiliated with a business, you can share their posts or your own photos of the business/inventory as long as it is not repetitive or excessive. Just make sure posts adhere to the regular group rules. Industry professionals are discouraged from asking members to share posts on their behalf.
For more frequent updates from your local favorite plant places we suggest following their social media pages!
Thanks,
Your Admins
TOPIC: Pricing and Kindness
Since buy/sell/trade has been allowed in this club, we’ve had the rule that no negative comments regarding pricing is allowed. This rule applies to local club members selling within the group and local plant businesses (garden centers, small shops, home shops, etc).
A lot goes into pricing a plant, one of the biggest factors being initial cost. Followed by things like growing space, watering, fertilizing, labor, time and general care for the plant. We do not know what they paid for the plant. We do not know the time or money invested in the plant. This group is NOT a place to go after someone for their pricing. If it’s an individual and you do not agree with pricing, don’t buy it. If it is a business and you do not agree with pricing – or any issues really, including pests or diseases – take it up with the business FIRST. A lot of local growers outsource houseplants and may not be aware of the issue. If you reach no resolution with the business or are not happy with the outcome, then a constructive post here is absolutely welcomed.
We don’t want anyone to be taken advantage of when it comes to pricing either, but because of the increasing houseplant demand right now, it’s hard to identify what a “good, fair” price is. If you are unsure, do some research. Check out the search function within this group, browse other plant groups, take a peep at Etsy, and yes, ask this group for help! – but exclude who the pricing is from. i.e. “I found a Fiddle Leaf Fig in a 10 in. pot about 3 foot tall with 2 leaves for $180 – is this a good price?”. Then – honest, kind answers only!
We created this club for the sole purpose of local planty parents wanting to enjoy planty things together and our objective is to help build the houseplant community here in TULSA. We’re here to help and educate each other, not tear each other down. When forming the group, we discussed what we liked and disliked about other groups and we all agreed the most important criteria we wanted to see in our club – that would set us apart from other groups – is kindness.
Be kind to each other.
Sincerely,
Your Admins
